TEZPUR, April 26: Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary while commemorating the doyens because of whom people of greater Dhekiajuli area have got a frontline higher educational institution like LOKD College said that during the glorious fifty years of the institution, it has produced many talents and human resources till date reflecting the dignity of the people of the district. The Speaker of the Assam Assembly who graced the open session of the four day long golden jubilee function of LOKD college also released a souvenir ‘Sonali Pristha’ published for the occasion, referring to the myths and legends of the historic Tezpur city which is considered as the headquarter of Sonitpur district including the hari-hara war. He also added that Tezpur is the focal point for intellectual thought where talents and iconic figures like Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Rup Kuwor Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Natasurya Phani Sarma among other doyens were born. He also mentioned that intellectual thinking started from Tezpur for which one can always remember Tezpur and its adjoining areas as a center for intellectual activities. Meanwhile, attending as a distinguished guest, state education minister Ranoj Pegu in his long discourse observed that college or any other academic institutions should be the center for all kinds of knowledge. Unfolding the severity of present-day unemployment problems in the region he also said that out of the 3.30 crore population of the state only 5 lakh people have been absorbed in many sectors. Referring to the condition of government sector academic institutions of the state, Pegu also mentioned that it is quite unfortunate that most of the economically well-to-do families do not send their children to the government schools. He urged the people to send their children to the government schools. In his speech, emphasising vocational education for promoting skilled human resources, he further analytically spoke on the NEP 2020.
On the other hand, local MLA cum state cabinet minister Ashok Singhal who is also the chairman of golden jubilee celebration committee, from his president’s chair said that students’ power is the solid power which should be taken forward on its right track. “Educational institutions should always remain free from all kinds of government interference, for their full prosperity,” he said adding the compulsory education on mother tongue till class five is a welcome step scheduled in the new education policy. Moreover, he also stated that in the next fifty years, the college would pave its own way if it approached with a new vision. Earlier, principal of the college, Dr. Sukdev Adhikari delivered his welcome address. Among other dignitaries, general secretary of Asam Sahitya Sabha Jadab Sarmah, general secretary of Bodo Sahitya Sabha Prasanta Kumar Boro, Sonitpur DC Deva Kumar Mishra, former deputy speaker of Assam Assembly Bhimananda Tanti, deputy chairman of Assam Text Book production and publication corporation Tulsi Barthakur, principal of Tezpur College Dr. Jyoti Kamal Hazarika and litterateur Manumati Kurmi were present in the programme.
