Fire Guts Two Shops In Sivasagar, 14 Month Old Dies

SIVASAGAR, May 4: Fire broke out in West Jamuna Road Babupatty Chariali on Thursday gutting two residence cum shops following damage to underground gas pipe line caused by Municipality excavator engaged in drain cleaning work near the house.

A 14-month old Bhagyashree Das and her mother Pompi Das sustained serious burn injuries while Bhagyashree died on the way to the hospital. Firefighters doused the fire within an hour. Jibon Saikia, father of the child, was not at home.

The family members have lodged an FIR against Sivasagar Municipality Board for using an excavator without switching off the gas supply.
