DIBRUGARH, April 26: Security has been beefed up in Dibrugarh ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to inaugurate a cancer hospital.

Meanwhile, a large number of security personnel have been deployed in Dibrugarh for the smooth conduct of the Prime Minister’s programme.

Special DGP GP Singh reviewed the security scenario of Dibrugarh. Singh held a meeting with the top police official for the smooth conduct of the programme.

“Special Protection Group (SPG) has taken over the security from the state police. Heavy security has been deployed in the venue. Everybody has been working day and night to make the programme successful,” said a police official.

He said, “The security has been tightened and checking has been going on to thwart any threat from anti-social people. Night patrolling has been going on at checkpoints.”

The traffic branch of Dibrugarh has also been working for the smooth flow of traffic in Dibrugarh during the programme.

“We are fully prepared for the smooth flow of traffic. Many routes are used to reach the venue during the programme,” said a traffic branch official.

For local authorities, the PM’s rally is going to be a logistical challenge as over a lakh of people from Dibrugarh and nearby districts are expected to attend the programme.

Meanwhile, the Dibrugarh district administration has been working hard to complete the work done before the programme but it seems that it has been challenging for the administration to complete the work on time due to inclement weather.

On the other hand, black topping work has been going on in some areas of Dibrugarh town. Construction of roads has been going on.

On April 28, the Prime Minister will inaugurate Cancer Care at the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh. From the same venue he will also virtually inaugurate six other cancer hospitals in Assam and lay the foundation of the newly sanctioned seventh cancer hospitals in the state.
