GUWAHATI, May 13: The chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Manoj Kumar, visited Arunachal Pradesh and Assam from May 8 to May 13 to review the ongoing Khadi and Village Industries Development Scheme.
His visit aimed to take Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Self-reliant India (Atmanirbhar Bharat)’ and ‘Local to Global’ campaign to the remote villages of the North Eastern States.

During his stay, he contacted the beneficiaries of the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program (PMEGP) and reviewed activities related to the ongoing Khadi and Village Industries Development Scheme in Arunachal Pradesh, inspiring people to join the self-reliant India campaign.
To provide employment opportunities for the maximum number of youths, a PMEGP awareness camp was also organized in Tawang on May 13.
The KVIC Chairman announced the opening of a sub-office of KVIC, Itanagar in Tawang city, fulfilling a long-pending demand from the people of Tawang. The sub-office of KVIC in Tawang would cater to maximum employment opportunities and needs for the youth of Tawang city.
Kumar distributed Bee-boxes, pickle-making machines, and automatic incense sticks making machines to the beneficiaries in two different programs in Assam. In Arunachal Pradesh, he launched a pilot project related to the footwear industry under the Village Industries Development Scheme and inspected several industrial units set up under PMEGP in Bomdila in West Kameng district.
The chairman also attended an awareness camp under Gramodyog Vikas Yojana and Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program (PMEGP) at Lohu, Arunachal Pradesh, where he encouraged young entrepreneurs to prepare local products with such quality that their demand increases globally. He visited the Khadi Eri Silk Training cum Production Center at Lohu, which provides direct employment to 20 women artisans from Tawang and West Kameng districts. He assured the artisans that a branch of Khadi Eri Silk Training cum Production Center would be opened in Tawang town.
Kumar also visited the Monpa Handmade Paper Making Unit in Tawang and met the artisans associated with it. He congratulated the artisans associated with the Monpa Handmade Paper Industry and assured that 50 artisans would be sent for training at Kumarappa National Handmade Paper Institute of KVIC, Jaipur, to make Monpa handmade paper a world-class paper product.
