WWF-India observes International day for Biological Diversity

GUWAHATI, May 23: The Assam state office of WWF-India organised an awareness programme at the Aquaculture and Biodiversity Centre with support from Zoology Department, Gauhati University on the occasion of International day for Biological Diversity on May 22.

The programme started with welcome address by Archita Baruah Bhattacharyya, state coordinator WWF-India Assam state office where students from various colleges and universities namely department of Environment Science, Gauhati University, National Law University & Judicial Academy, Assam Don Bosco University, Gauhati Commerce College, Handique Girls’ College and SB Deorah College took part.

The participants were taken around the centre by the research fellows followed by a brief about the centre by Prof Dandadhar  Sarma of Zoology dept GU.

Then State Coordinator WWF-India AAPSO gave a presentation in the auditorium of Zoology Department, GU with the events participants on this year’s theme “From Agreement to Action: Build Back Biodiversity”, explained the importance of the International Day for Biological Diversity and shared ideas what the students can do to conserve the biodiversity round them. This was followed by a biodiversity walk for the participants in the botanical garden of Gauhati University initiated by WWF Officials and research fellows from Wildlife Science Division, Gauhati University. Various fauna & flora witnessed in the trail were documented by the participants with the help of the experts.
