DIPHU, June 10: Karbi Students Union (KSU), Duarbagori head branch, felicitated HSLC and HS final examination 2023 students from Deithor and Deihori areas. The programme was held at Moniram Langneh Auditorium in Deithor.
Altogether, 120 students who passed the HSLC examinations were felicitated in the programme. 47 got first, 68 got second, and 5 passed in the third division. In the higher secondary final year examination, a total of 38 students passed. 6 got the first division, 13 got the second division, and 19 got the third division.
Attending as chief guest, the Executive Member (EM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Education, Richard Tokbi, said students should work hard to fulfil their dreams and goals and not waste time.
He said in the Deithor and Deihori areas, 158 students have passed in HSLC and HS, which is a good sign, and congratulated them and wished them success in their higher studies.
Advising the students to concentrate on their studies, the EM said, “Students of Deithor and Deihori should have dreams and work hard to achieve them. There is a Velongbi Harlongbi College here. It is a good college. By studying here, you can become a successful person. I don’t say you shouldn’t go to Diphu to study. You can go there to study, but as a student, you should know what your responsibility is. I have seen many students go to study in Diphu but later end up getting married. In Diphu, there are many recreation centres and picnic spots to enjoy. You should not waste your time on other things, but concentrate on your studies.”
He said many students in the 1960s and 1970s studied in Shillong. The late Moniram Langneh, Raidang Engti, Wilson Tokbi, and others studied in Shillong. At one time, Deithor was the centre of the education revival. But this fame is gone. Now the present generation of youths should bring the name back by being successful in their studies.
The EM also expressed regret that many students in Deithor and Deithori areas are using alcohol, tobacco, and other intoxicants, and urged the parents to inquire about their children’s activities in schools and colleges.
Dr Bamon Kiri Rongpi and Advocate Sarkiri Langneh also spoke on education awareness to students.
The programme was chaired by General Secretary, KSU, Duarbagori head branch, Gautom Terang, and attended by president, KSA, Thomson Rongpi; general secretary of KSA (Inglongpho), Budho Terang, and others.
