SHILLONG, July 3 (NNN): Thirty-eight-year-old Pynsuklang Khongwir, who was bedridden after undergoing spinal surgery, died on the spot after an explosion at his residence at Smit village in East Khasi Hills district this afternoon. Some reports said it was an “electric bed” that exploded. However, the exact cause of the blast was yet to be confirmed till the filing of this report.
The incident took place at Lumkynsai at 12 noon.
The blast was tremendous which also caused damage to some rooms of the house on the ground floor.
In the preliminary enquiry, it was revealed by the members of the family that the deceased person had undergone spinal surgery 2 months back and was bedridden, district police chief Sylvester Nongtnger said in a statement.
According to him, the family members also mentioned that the deceased person had earlier attempted suicide twice.
The police officer said during the examination of the place of occurrence, bits and pieces of power source for the initiation of blast were identified. The Bomb Squad team and CSU team were verifying the cause of the explosion.
In this connection, a case is being registered and an investigation is on, he added.
