NAMSAI, May 17: A significant step toward environmental sustainability was taken by the 186 Battalion with a tree plantation drive held at the Government Higher Secondary School, Jaipur, Namsai. The event saw active and enthusiastic participation from battalion officers, staff, students, and local residents, reinforcing the message of collective responsibility towards environmental conservation.
The drive was aimed at raising awareness about the importance of ecological balance and the role of afforestation in combating pressing global challenges such as climate change, air pollution, and loss of biodiversity.
Senior officers including Shri Dharmendra Kumar Singh (Commandant), Shri Bipin Kumar Singh (2.I/C Adm), Shri Sandip Sharma (2.I/C), Shri K.N. Haldhar (Deputy Commandant), Dr. (Smt.) Chundru Lakshmi Manasa (SMO), and Miss S. Seema Devi (Assistant Commandant) graced the occasion. In their speeches, they underlined the vital role trees play in purifying air, preventing soil erosion, conserving groundwater, and providing habitat to wildlife.
They also emphasized the social value of such initiatives, noting how they foster unity, civic responsibility, and stronger community engagement in sustainable development efforts.
A variety of saplings, including native species, were planted during the program. The 186 Bn also put in place measures to ensure their proper nurturing and long-term care, with an appeal to the community to take ownership of the green assets.
The presence of local villagers added to the spirit of the event, reflecting a shared commitment to creating a greener, healthier future. The 186 Battalion reiterated its dedication to environmental protection and pledged to continue similar initiatives in collaboration with the local population.
