NAMSAI, June 19: As part of the nationwide campaign ‘Viksit Bharat Ka Amrit Kaal: 11 Saal Seva, Sushasan, Garib Kalyan – Modi Sarkar Ka 11 Saal: Sankalp Se Siddhi Tak’, the BJP Kisan Morcha on Wednesday organized a large-scale tree plantation programme in Roing, situated in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Dibang Valley district. The event was held under the banner of ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, a movement aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and honouring motherhood through ecological responsibility.
According to an official statement, the event was organised with the objective of fostering public awareness on environmental conservation while simultaneously highlighting the BJP government’s focus on sustainable rural development over the past 11 years.
The plantation drive was spearheaded by Shri Rajkumar Chahar, National President of the BJP Kisan Morcha, and Shri Shambhu Kumar, National General Secretary of the Morcha. Their presence underscored the party’s commitment to involving its agricultural wing in climate action and rural empowerment initiatives. Senior leaders and elected representatives from the state, including Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture Minister Gabriel D. Wangsu, MLA of Namsai Chow Zingnu Namchoom, Roing MLA Mutchu Mithi, Dambuk MLA Puinnyo Apum, and State BJP Kisan Morcha President Gumsen Lollen also participated in the event.
In their respective addresses, the dignitaries called upon citizens, especially farmers and rural youth, to participate actively in environmental protection activities such as afforestation, organic farming, and water conservation. They reiterated that such initiatives not only support ecological balance but also ensure long-term agricultural sustainability, a key concern for both the central and state governments.
Speaking at the programme, Shri Rajkumar Chahar highlighted the importance of tree plantation as a symbolic and practical action toward achieving a Viksit Bharat (Developed India). “The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative encourages every citizen to plant a tree in honour of their mother—an act that resonates deeply with Indian values of respect for nature and family. Today’s programme is a tribute to our roots and a pledge for our future,” he said.
Shri Gabriel D. Wangsu, the Agriculture Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, lauded the involvement of farmers in the initiative, noting that the state government is increasingly aligning agricultural policies with environmental goals. “Climate resilience and sustainability are now embedded in our farming strategies. Plantation drives like this serve to complement that vision while involving the public at large,” he said.
MLA Mutchu Mithi expressed optimism that such programmes would contribute meaningfully to environmental restoration, especially in ecologically sensitive zones like the Dibang Valley. “It is our collective responsibility to preserve the natural beauty and resources of Arunachal Pradesh. A single tree today ensures a greener tomorrow for generations,” he remarked.
The event also saw the active participation of local BJP workers, panchayat members, and hundreds of villagers, many of whom pledged to continue plantation activities in their own localities. The BJP Kisan Morcha also distributed saplings to households and educational institutions to encourage a community-wide adoption of green practices.
As part of the larger campaign celebrating 11 years of the Narendra Modi-led government, the Kisan Morcha is expected to conduct similar drives across other districts in Arunachal Pradesh and the rest of the Northeast. The focus, the statement noted, will be on engaging the farming community in nation-building efforts through environment-friendly and development-oriented programmes.
The ‘Viksit Bharat Ka Amrit Kaal’ campaign highlights the Centre’s achievements across key sectors including rural development, welfare delivery, agricultural reform, and governance. The BJP Kisan Morcha’s plantation initiative in Roing marks a green milestone in the ongoing commemorations, combining environmental stewardship with grassroots political outreach.
The event concluded with a pledge ceremony in which attendees vowed to plant more trees and support environmental causes, reinforcing the spirit of ‘Sankalp Se Siddhi’ (from resolution to accomplishment) that drives the campaign.
