ITANAGAR, July 21: The Arunachal Olympic Association (AOA) has disaffiliated 22 sports associations and organisations in the state for non-performance and failure to submit performance reports despite repeated notices, according to an official statement.
AOA Secretary General Bamang Tago informed that the decision was taken during the recent Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association.
He described the move as a significant step towards strengthening sports in the state. “This kind of decision might not have been taken in any other state so far,” Tago said.
The list of disaffiliated bodies has been forwarded to the state government and the Sports Department for necessary legal and administrative action.
The disaffiliated bodies include: Arunachal Athletics Association, All Arunachal Pradesh Carom Association, Arunachal Powerlifting Association, Shooting Ball Association of Arunachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh Billiard Board Association, Softballs Association of Arunachal Pradesh, Equestrian Association of Arunachal, Arunachal Amateur Aquatic Association, Arunachal Sepak Takraw Association, Arunachal Pradesh Strength Lifting Association, Net Ball Association of Arunachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh Kurash Association, All Arunachal Pradesh Gymnastic Association, Arunachal Pradesh Due Ball Association, Arunachal Pradesh Beach Volleyball Association, All Arunachal Pradesh Tennis Ball Association, Arunachal Pradesh Bridge Federation, Arunachal Sambo Association, Motor Sports Association of Arunachal, Arunachal Ball Badminton Association, Arunachal Pradesh Tennikoit Association, and Arunachal Pradesh Fencing Association.
Tago stated that the AOA had 72 affiliated sports bodies prior to this decision.
After the disaffiliation, 50 associations remain — 22 of them provisional, 28 permanent, and 13 considered active.
Highlighting Arunachal Pradesh’s potential in sports, Tago noted that the state’s performance in recent national games reflects its growing prominence in track and field events.
He added that Arunachal ranks second in the Northeast in terms of sporting achievements.
In preparation for the 2028 Olympics, the AOA and state government are working on initiatives such as an “Olympic Mission,” with continued support for players participating in national and international events.
Tago also stressed the importance of promoting physical fitness among the general public and noted that infrastructure and facilities for sportspersons have improved significantly.
“Sports is emerging as a major industry, and our youth have a great opportunity to make a name for themselves, their families, and their communities,” he said.
