APLS holds condolence meeting for late poet Taichop Bangyang

NAMSAI, June 10: A condolence meeting was held at the office of the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) on June 8, 2025, to mourn the untimely demise of late Taichop Bangyang, a young and promising poet and short story writer. An active member of APLS, Bangyang passed away on May 16, 2025.

Born on October 10, 1993, in Lapnan village of Tirap District, late Bangyang had his early education at Navodaya Vidyalaya, Tissa. He completed his graduation from Wangcha Rajkumar Government College, Deomali, and went on to pursue a Master’s degree in English from Rajiv Gandhi University. Following his post-graduation, he joined VKV Nirjuli as a teacher and was also serving as a guest faculty member at Wangcha Rajkumar College at the time of his passing.

During the ceremony, APLS President YD Thongchi led the gathering in offering floral tributes to the departed soul. Remembering Bangyang’s literary talent, Thongchi remarked that his passing is a great loss to the literary community of Arunachal Pradesh, as his writings had shown immense promise. He also highlighted Bangyang’s active involvement with the Tirap unit of APLS.

Wanggo Socia delivered a heartfelt speech, reflecting on the life and literary contributions of the late writer. Others who paid floral tribute included Bompi Riba, Gumpi Nguso, Inumoni Das Thongchi, Moge Basar, and several members of the literary society.

The condolence meeting was followed by the 143rd monthly literary sitting of APLS. The session featured poetry recitations by Gandhi Riyang, Ringu Elapra, Yagyaj, Moge Basar, Gumpi Nguso, and Bompi Riba. Short stories were read by Issac Jilen and Gumpi Nguso, while Shri Wanggo Socia presented a critical appreciation of Rajkamal Choudhury’s Hindi novel Machli Mari Hui.

The gathering not only paid tribute to a lost literary voice but also reaffirmed the society’s commitment to nurturing literature and commemorating its contributors.
