NAHARLAGUN, Sept 13: The Arunachal Pradesh Tea Growers’ Association (APTGA) held its general body meeting recently at the Old Conference Hall of the Directorate of Agriculture, Naharlagun, during which several issues affecting tea growers were discussed and plans were made to create greater awareness among the state’s citizens, an official statement said.
The meeting was chaired by senior member and former president Tadak Gab, who highlighted the various challenges faced by tea cultivators across the state.
Representatives from different tea-growing regions participated and deliberated on the difficulties and opportunities in tea cultivation, business, and marketing.
Speaking to the media, Tadak Gab said the meeting was convened to restructure the executive committee to better serve the tea growers and promote sustainable development in the sector.
The initiative was undertaken with the guidance and support of Agriculture Minister Gabriel Denwang Wangsu and the Directorate of Agriculture led by T D Neckom.
Given that the organisation had been functioning smoothly but required revitalisation, the house unanimously resolved to reshuffle the executive committee.
Tadak Gab was reelected as President, with Tabir Tatan Eko as vice president, Kapwang Arangham as General Secretary, Adv Tabang Panggeng as assistant general secretary, Okit Paling as convenor, and Tama Baja as office secretary.
Social worker Nabam Nekia and journalist Manoj Singh were also unanimously appointed as chief advisor and advisor respectively.
Tadak Gab added that several issues now need to be resolved with the Environment and Forest Department, Tea Board of India, and the State Agriculture Department.
He expressed hope that more farmers in the state would associate with tea cultivation, similar to other regions of the country.
