ITANAGAR, Aug 14: Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday joined the rest of the nation in solemnly observing Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas 2025 (Partition Horrors Remembrance Day), with the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organising a commemorative programme at its State Office.

The event, according to an official statement, honoured the memory of the millions whose lives were lost, families uprooted, and communities displaced during the Partition of 1947.

The programme was attended by Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso, BJP State Vice-President and Convener Ashok Sangchoju, State General Secretary Tadar Niglar, State Secretary and Programme In-charge Taring Tiri, SOBs, former MLAs, departmental chairmen and vice-chairmen, morcha heads, and party karyakartas.

Speaking on the occasion, State General Secretary Tadar Niglar extended his best wishes to the students of Dera Natung College, Itanagar, who had completed their internship under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

He expressed confidence that the students would continue to excel in their academic and professional pursuits.

Niglar also delivered a detailed address on the significance of Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas, observed nationwide on August 14.

He described the day as a sombre reminder of the immense sacrifices and unimaginable hardships endured during the Partition, which claimed around 15 lakh lives, saw approximately 75,000 women subjected to sexual violence, and displaced nearly two crore people.

He termed the Partition, carried out in the name of religion, as an “inhuman chapter” in Indian history, attributing it to a “wrong political decision” that tore apart communities and altered the subcontinent’s boundaries.

Citing historical events such as the partition of Bengal and the violence of Direct Action Day in Kolkata, Niglar said these developments stemmed from the “Divide India, Destroy India” policy, which culminated in the hurried demarcation by Sir Cyril Radcliffe—a man unfamiliar with India’s ground realities.

He also highlighted the ideal of Akhand Bharat, noting that repeated invasions, centuries of foreign rule, and ultimately the Partition reduced India’s territorial expanse.

MLA Techi Kaso, in his address, commended the state BJP for organising the event to keep alive the memory of the victims of 1947.

Urging karyakartas to serve both the party and the people with dedication, he stressed the need to raise grassroots awareness about government policies and welfare schemes so that citizens could access their benefits.

He also called upon party workers to uphold the mission and vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pema Khandu with unity and commitment.

The programme also featured reflections on the NEP 2020 internship initiative.

TP Shongla, guide for the first batch of Dera Natung College interns, said the students had been introduced to the ideology and functioning of the BJP, with a focus on serving the public interest.

He expressed hope that they would apply these learnings to positively influence society.

On behalf of the 11 internship graduates, Golom Alisha and Bengia Mayang thanked BJP leaders for their mentorship, sharing that the programme deepened their understanding of government schemes and the party’s role in public welfare.

They pledged to use this knowledge to make a constructive difference in their communities and expressed gratitude to coordinators TP Shongla and Libom Boje for their guidance.

The dignitaries, including Techi Kaso and Tadar Niglar, distributed certificates to the interns during the event.

Earlier in the day, Techi Kaso inaugurated an exhibition at the State Office depicting rare and poignant images of the Partition—highlighting the pain, courage, and resilience of those who lived through the tragedy.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Yagam Jomoh Tagru, State General Secretary of the BJP Mahila Morcha, who expressed gratitude to all participants for their contributions in making the commemoration a meaningful tribute to history.
