ITANAGAR, Oct 7: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General KT Parnaik, (Retd) on Tuesday inaugurated Ane’s Home – A Centre for Child Safety and Healing at the Women Police Station in Pasighat, East Siang district.
The facility is designed to provide a comprehensive support system for children and victims of abuse through legal aid, psychological and trauma counselling, child-safe spaces, menstrual hygiene support, and community engagement programmes.
Describing the initiative as a compassionate step towards strengthening child protection mechanisms, the Governor commended the East Siang Police for their proactive efforts in creating a dedicated centre that focuses on healing, safety, and empowerment.
“Ane’s Home reflects the district’s deep commitment to protecting its youngest citizens. It embodies the values of care, compassion, and accountability that should guide all our actions in society,” he said.
The Governor emphasised the need to build a nurturing and secure environment where every child can grow free from fear and harm.
He urged all stakeholders to work in unison to make the district completely crime-free and to ensure that the centre becomes a symbol of hope and resilience.
Highlighting the importance of outreach and awareness, Lt Gen Parnaik called on officials to inform students and youth about the existence of Ane’s Home so that they may seek help or assist others in distress.
He also underscored the need to educate children on personal safety, particularly the concept of ‘Good Touch and Bad Touch’, to help them recognise and respond to unsafe situations.
“Awareness at the family level is equally vital. Parents must also be counselled and empowered with knowledge to prevent abuse and respond effectively when needed,” he said.
Encouraging police personnel to take an active role beyond enforcement, the Governor said they must act as agents of social reform.
“Police officers of Ane’s Home must lead by example in spreading awareness and empathy within the community. Every effort should contribute to building a safer and kinder society for children,” he added.
Officer-in-Charge of the Women Police Station, Inspector Amum Payeng, briefed the Governor that Ane’s Home — meaning Mother’s Home — is a transformative centre that integrates legal aid, psycho-social counselling, medical support, and child-friendly spaces under one roof to promote recovery and resilience among victims of sexual and domestic abuse.
Later, the Governor visited the Pasighat Police Station and interacted with officers and personnel.
He shared his vision of Smart Policing, an approach rooted in technology, professionalism, and community partnership to ensure efficient and transparent law enforcement.
Calling the drug menace a grave threat to society, especially the youth, the Governor urged the police to adopt a mission-oriented strategy to eradicate it.
“The fight against drugs requires proactive policing, community participation, and sustained awareness drives. Only through a united approach can we safeguard the future of our youth,” he asserted.
He also suggested the establishment of small libraries and online knowledge hubs in police stations to encourage continuous learning among police personnel.
Such initiatives, he said, would help officers stay updated on laws, modern policing techniques, and technological tools, fostering a culture of professional excellence.
Superintendent of Police, East Siang, Pankaj Lamba, informed the Governor about ongoing district initiatives, including collaborations with NGOs and Self-Help Groups to address social issues and build stronger community relations.
The Governor appreciated these efforts and urged the police to continue engaging closely with citizens to promote a harmonious and secure society.
Local MLA Er Tapi Darang, IGP (Central) Hibu Tamang, Deputy Commissioner Sonalika Jiwani, Commandant 5th IRBn Garima, and officials from Rashtriya Raksha University — Dr Jasbirkaur Thadhani and Dr Moirangmayum Sanjeev Singh, Director of RRU Pasighat Campus — were also present.
The RRU team collaborated with the district police in setting up the centre’s psychological and trauma counselling facilities.
