Arunachal SEC briefs Arunachal Governor on Panchayat, civic polls

ITANAGAR, Dec 29: The State Election Commissioner (SEC) of Arunachal Pradesh, Rinchin Tashi, called on the Governor, KT Parnaik, at Lok Bhavan here on Monday and briefed him on the conduct of the recently concluded Panchayati Raj and Urban Local Body elections in the State.

Congratulating the State Election Commission, the Governor lauded the SEC and his team for the smooth and successful conduct of the elections.

He also commended the district administrations and the State Police for their cooperation and commitment throughout the electoral process.

The Governor said the peaceful and orderly conduct of the polls reflected meticulous planning, seamless coordination and efficient execution by all stakeholders.

He observed that beyond ensuring smooth polling, the election process had strengthened democracy at the grassroots by empowering citizens to actively participate in governance through transparency and inclusiveness.

He further stated that the free and fair conduct of the elections reaffirmed public trust in democratic institutions and underscored the State’s commitment to upholding the will of the people without fear or favour.

The Governor also appreciated the robust and well-coordinated security arrangements, noting that constant vigilance and professionalism by the security forces ensured a safe and confidence-inspiring environment for voters.

According to official figures, the Panchayat elections recorded a voter turnout of 74.92 per cent across the State.

In the municipal polls, Itanagar registered a turnout of 51.39 per cent, while Pasighat recorded a higher participation rate of 60.95 per cent.
