ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday concluded Atal Smriti Varsh with an Assembly Sammelan held at the DK Convention Hall here, commemorating the 101st birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
As part of Atal Smriti Varsh, the party organised a series of programmes across the State, including poetry recitations, painting and rangoli competitions, and other cultural activities highlighting the life, vision and legacy of the former Prime Minister.
The concluding Assembly Sammelan was attended by Nagaland Tourism, Higher and Technical Education Minister Temjen Imna Along as the chief guest.
Other dignitaries present included BJP Arunachal Pradesh vice-president and State convenor for Atal Smriti Varsh Dunggoli Libang, State general secretary Tadar Niglar, ministers Biyuram Wahge, Ojing Tasing and Nyato Dukam, and BJP national executive member Arvind Damani.
Prof (Dr) Taro Sindik, assistant professor in the Department of Hindi at Dera Natung Government College, delivered a presentation on Vajpayee’s life, leadership and contributions to nation-building, underscoring his lasting influence on India’s democratic and developmental journey.
The programme saw participation from MLAs, corporators, senior party leaders, karyakartas and supporters.
A felicitation ceremony was also held to honour senior party workers who had closely worked with Vajpayee.
Those felicitated included Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju, along with senior leaders and karyakartas of the State.
In his keynote address, Along conveyed greetings to the people of Arunachal Pradesh on behalf of BJP Nagaland and the Naga community.
He highlighted Vajpayee’s vision for Arunachal Pradesh, particularly his foresight on the State’s hydroelectric potential, and said the former Prime Minister had laid a strong foundation for hydropower development in the region.
Along also recalled that major initiatives for the North East, including strengthening of the North Eastern Council and the creation of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), were undertaken during Vajpayee’s tenure, enabling greater flow of development funds to the region.
He urged party workers to imbibe Vajpayee’s inclusive and principled leadership style while working towards a Viksit Bharat, and emphasised the need to safeguard indigenous rights through appropriate legislation. He congratulated the BJP Arunachal Pradesh unit on the successful observance of Atal Smriti Varsh and called for continued efforts to uphold the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat”.
