NAMSAI, May 28: The monthly District Level NCORD (Narco Coordination Centre) meeting was held recently under the chairmanship of East Siang Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu at the DC’s Conference Hall, Pasighat. The meeting aimed to chart out a comprehensive strategy to combat the menace of drug abuse in the district.
During the session, DC Taggu reviewed the status of drug-related incidents and the progress made in implementing countermeasures. He appreciated the efforts of the NCORD team while reminding that efficiency on paper must be matched with action on the ground. Referring to the progress made in Silluk—the cleanest village of the district—he encouraged similar efforts in Rani village, the district’s largest. “Let’s make Rani a drug-free village,” he stated, recognizing the anti-drug efforts led by village activist T. Darang, President of the local Anti-Drug Committee.
The Deputy Commissioner also lauded the coordinated work of the NCORD team, noting visible improvements in ground-level outcomes over the last six months. “The district is on the right path. Positive changes are evident, but sustained efforts are needed to maintain this momentum,” he added.
At the outset of the meeting, the DC took a comprehensive appraisal from members of the NCORD committee regarding the current scenario of drug abuse and peddling in East Siang. Each department presented updates and shared inputs on ongoing actions and challenges.
Members of the NCORD team acknowledged that while progress has been made, significant obstacles remain. “Drug users and peddlers are still present in large numbers. Though complete elimination will take time, our consistent and joint efforts will gradually weaken their network,” said one member.
Earlier in the meeting, the Superintendent of Police, East Siang, presented an update on the district police’s efforts in tackling drug-related issues. He emphasized that success in combating the drug menace is possible only through coordinated action among all stakeholders. “The police are committed to doing everything possible, but we need strong collaboration from all sectors,” he said.
The meeting concluded with renewed commitment from all departments to intensify efforts, strengthen community engagement, and work together in the mission to make East Siang a drug-free district.
