Kargil Vijay Diwas observed in Namsai with tributes to local martyrs

NAMSAI, July 26: The 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed with solemnity and patriotic fervour at the multipurpose hall in Namsai, Arunachal Pradesh, in an event jointly organised by the Assam Rifles, Arunachal University of Studies, and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.

According to an official statement, the commemorative programme paid tribute to the valiant soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 Kargil War, reaffirming the nation’s enduring gratitude towards its armed forces.

The programme was graced by the presence of Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik, who served as the chief guest, alongside Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, local MLA Zingnu Namchoom, Deputy Commissioner of Namsai CR Khampa, DSP Takir Zirdo, Superintendent of Police S Thinley, and several senior defence personnel.

These included Brig Sarabjeet Singh, Commander of the 25 Sector Assam Rifles; Brig Kaustubh Kekre, Commander of 181 Mountain Brigade; Col Vivek Tripathi, SM, Commanding Officer of 11 Assam Rifles; and Vikash Rai along with jawans.

Also in attendance were Commandant-in-Charge of the 186th Battalion CRPF Ariiche Antony Maheo with 50 personnel, Chairman of Arunachal University of Studies Dr Ashwini Lochan, and other esteemed dignitaries who came together to honour the spirit of sacrifice and service.

The day marked a poignant occasion of remembrance and respect for the courage and dedication shown by Indian soldiers during Operation Vijay.

Recalling the valour of those who defended the nation under extreme adversity, the dignitaries paid floral tributes and expressed collective solidarity with the families of martyrs.

In a deeply moving gesture, MLA of the 47th Namsai Constituency, Chow Zingnu Namchoom, visited the families of two martyred soldiers from the district—Lt Kartik Phalung of the 9th Assam Regiment and Domin Pakkam of the EME Corps.

Offering his heartfelt tribute, Namchoom stated that the extraordinary bravery, sacrifice, and sense of duty shown by these sons of the soil remain permanently etched in the collective memory of the region.

He assured the families that the nation stands forever indebted to their loss and that their sacrifices would continue to illuminate the path towards a stronger, united Bharat.

He was accompanied by District BJP President Ong Maio during the visit.

The Governor, speaking on the occasion, reflected on the legacy of Kargil and emphasised the continued role of the armed forces in safeguarding the integrity and sovereignty of the country.

The presence of serving jawans, veer naris, and senior administrative and military officials underscored the solemn importance of the day, which served not only as a tribute to the fallen but also as a call for national unity, resilience, and gratitude.

The event concluded with a reaffirmation of the state’s commitment to honour the memory of its martyrs and to inspire future generations through their example of selfless service.
