ITANAGAR, Sept 22: Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of singer Zubeen Garg, describing him as a “shining star” and a cultural phenomenon whose songs in many languages touched people across the Northeast, including Arunachal Pradesh.
Rijiju, while speaking to the media, said that the untimely and tragic death of Zubeen Garg has saddened the entire nation.
He stated that Garg will always be remembered and will continue to inspire younger generations with his music and artistic legacy.

Comparing Garg’s contribution to that of the legendary Bhupen Hazarika, the Union Minister underlined the deep bond the late singer had with Arunachal Pradesh.
“I pray to the Almighty for the eternal peace of the departed soul, and at the same time I pray to the Almighty to provide strength to the bereaved family at this hour of crisis,” Rijiju said.
Confirming his presence at the funeral, Rijiju announced that he left Itanagar for Guwahati on Tuesday morning to attend the last rites, representing the central government and paying homage to the late artist.
It may be mentioned that Zubeen Garg, the renowned singer and cultural icon from Assam, passed away at the age of 52 while swimming in the sea in Singapore on Friday.
His sudden demise occurred a day before he was scheduled to perform at the North East India Festival (NEIF).
The Assam Government has announced that Zubeen Garg will be cremated with full state honours on September 23 at a village near Guwahati. Garg, who leaves behind a vast repertoire of songs across various languages, will continue to be remembered for his voice and the cultural impact he created across the region.
