YUPIA, July 8: The team from ALG Pasighat clinched the title in the maiden Inter-Advance Landing Ground (ALG) Football Tournament, defeating ALG Aalo 4–2 in a spirited final match held at the Golden Jubilee Outdoor Stadium in Yupia on Tuesday.
Gracing the occasion as chief guest, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen K T Parnaik (Retd), PVSM, UYSM, YSM, hailed the tournament as a model for nation-building through sport, discipline, and inspiration.
He presented the championship and runners-up trophies, commending both teams for their performance and sportsmanship.
The event, organised by the Eastern Air Command of the Indian Air Force, aimed to engage youth from areas surrounding ALGs across the state.
Eight teams, comprising IAF personnel and local players from Tawang, Ziro, Mechuka, Aalo, Pasighat, Tuting, Walong, and Vijoynagar, participated in the tournament which began on June 24.
In his address, the Governor praised the Indian Air Force for its initiative, stating that the tournament was not just a sporting event but a platform for meaningful youth engagement in remote areas. “Involving young people in constructive activities like football promotes discipline, teamwork, and a sense of purpose,” he said, noting that such efforts help discover hidden sporting talent and may inspire youth to pursue careers in the armed forces.
Lt Gen Parnaik further said that Arunachal Pradesh holds great potential in sports and appreciated the role of the IAF in fostering resilience, leadership, and camaraderie through such initiatives.
Air Marshal Surat Singh, AVSM, VM, VSM, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Air Command, was also present along with other senior officials.
Students from various schools added to the celebratory atmosphere, with an enthusiastic crowd and a special band performance by Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Nirjuli.
The tournament’s successful completion was marked not just by its competitive edge but also by its role in bringing together communities and reinforcing patriotic spirit among youth in frontier areas.
