NAMSAI, June 19: In a significant meeting underscoring the evolving role of democratic institutions in Arunachal Pradesh, Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly, Tesam Pongte, called on the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt General KT Parnaik, PVSM, UYSM, YSM (Retd.), at Raj Bhavan on Thursday.
According to an official statement, the two dignitaries engaged in a wide-ranging discussion focused on the dynamic role of the State Legislature in promoting governance, development, and legislative excellence.
Emphasis was laid on the transformation of the Assembly into a forward-thinking institution, adapting to the changing demands of the 21st century.
The Governor lauded the Speaker for his visionary leadership and innovative approach to legislative reforms.
He particularly praised the successful integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and the Assembly’s transition to a fully paperless system.
Calling the initiative “a transformative step,” Governor Parnaik remarked that such modernisation has placed the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly among the most technologically progressive in the country.
Highlighting the Assembly’s blend of historical significance and contemporary function, the Governor commended the Assembly Secretariat for the aesthetic and functional transformation of the Assembly complex.
He said that the renewed look and enhanced efficiency of the legislative space have made it “a destination of pride” for the state and its people.
During the meeting, the Speaker briefed the Governor on the preparations underway for the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
He extended a formal invitation to the Governor to grace the inaugural ceremony, marking fifty years of legislative service and institutional evolution in the state.
The Governor, in response, shared valuable insights on how the Legislature can continue playing a decisive role in public welfare and inclusive growth. He encouraged sustained efforts toward institutional transparency, capacity building, and legislative activism to deepen democratic engagement across the state.
The meeting also saw the presence of Tadar Meena, secretary of the legislative assembly, who joined the deliberations on the roadmap ahead for strengthening legislative processes in Arunachal Pradesh.
The interaction between the Governor and the Speaker was noted as both – timely and forward-looking, coming at a moment when the state is poised to celebrate five decades of legislative progress and democratic maturity.
