MAGO, Aug 14: In a stirring tribute to the 79th Independence Day, the Indian Army, under the aegis of the Gajraj Corps, in collaboration with the civil administration and local communities, organised a patriotic “Tiranga March” at an altitude of 14,000 feet in the forward areas of Chuna. The information was provided in an official statement.
The march, led by Assistant Commissioner of Thingbu Administrative Circle Thutan Wangchu and supported by the Gorkhas stationed at Chuna, brought together soldiers of the Indian Army, personnel of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and villagers from Mago and Chuna. Participants carried a 100-metre-long National Flag as they walked shoulder-to-shoulder through the pristine greenfields of Chuna. Against the backdrop of the rugged Himalayan landscape, the sight of the tricolour created a vibrant panorama of saffron, white, and green, rekindling the spirit of patriotism, integrity, and unity in the high-altitude border region.
Following the march, participants took part in a cleanliness drive to protect the fragile ecosystem of the area. The initiative aligned with the district administration’s campaign to maintain the forward areas as a “No Plastic Zone”, aiming to preserve the region’s unique biodiversity, flora, and fauna. Volunteers collected plastic waste and other litter, reinforcing the message of environmental responsibility alongside patriotic celebration.
Officials said the event served as a symbol of the deep bond between the Armed Forces and the local population, reflecting a shared commitment to safeguarding the frontiers of the nation while upholding its values. They added that the march not only celebrated India’s independence but also showcased the resolve of the border communities to contribute actively to the country’s unity, security, and environmental stewardship.
