ITANAGAR, Oct 24: The Yobin Tribe Fundamental Rights Forum (YFRF) held a press conference at the Arunachal Press Club in Itanagar on Friday, highlighting the historicity, ethnicity, constitutional status, and contributions of the Yobin community to the state and the nation.
Avia Ngwazah, leader of the forum, emphasized the longstanding presence of the Yobin tribe—also known as Lishu—residing in the international border areas of Vijayanagar in Changlang district.
He said the tribe, belonging to the Tibeto-Burman language group, has played a significant role in the socio-political and territorial integrity of Arunachal Pradesh and India.
Ngwazah stated that recent misinformation about the Yobin community prompted the press conference.
“We are here to clarify matters and appeal to people to refer to books, photographs, museums, libraries, and media archives to understand our community,” he said.
The forum also addressed the issue of ST certificates. While some Yobin people had previously faced denial of Scheduled Tribe recognition, Ngwazah clarified that the matter is now a technical issue and not a constitutional one.
The Yobin Tribe Fundamental Rights Forum called for rightful inclusion and acknowledgment of the community within the broader framework of the Indian Constitution and urged respect for their distinct cultural identity.
