10 Mobile Veterinary Units Flagged Off In Karbi Anglong

Diphu, Sept 8: Chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang on Friday flagged off 10 mobile veterinary units (MVU) vehicles from Arboretum-cum-Craft Centre at Diphu in Karbi Anglong district

The animal husbandry and veterinary department launched the animal ambulance service for treating animals at the doorstep of farmers in the district.

Speaking on the occasion, Tuliram Ronghang said, “It is for the first time in Karbi Anglong that MVUs are being launched for providing mobile medical services to pigs, cattle, goats and poultry. The veterinary doctors will make door-to-door visits in these mobile vans to treat the sick animals. In the first phase 10 MVU vehicles have been released for Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong. More MVUs will be provided soon.”

District veterinary officer Dilip Mahanta said, “While seven MVUs are for Karbi Anglong, three are for West Karbi Anglong. In one MVU there will be a veterinary doctor, a field assistance and driver. The public will be able to avail the MVU service from 8 am to 5 pm. During these hours anyone can call on athe toll free number 1962 to avail medical care for their sick animals.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched the MVU service in the state on June 13 this year.

Young veterinary doctors are being appointed for the MUVs and as their energy and enthusiasm will help them render their service to the people in an effective manner.

Meanwhile, Mahanta also pointed out that in Karbi Anglong the Africa Swine flu has badly affected the piggeries in the district. Awareness should be created among the farmers so that pigs they can take the necessary precautionary measures to keep their livestock safe.

The state government is providing compensation to those who have lost their pigs. In Karbi Anglong the animal husbandry and veterinary department with the cooperation of Hongbari Engtipi, manager of a poultry farm in Diphu has distributed piglets to famers.

MP Horensing Bey, executive member of KAAC’s animal husbandry and veterinary department, D Uphing Maslai and other MLAs, executive members of KAAC and other officials of the department were present on the occasion.
