2 bodies, car fished out from Aie river

Abhayapuri, April 5: Bodies of two men including a local journalist along with a four-wheeler were found in the Aie River at Borghola under Abhayapuri Police Station on Tuesday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Abdul Latif, Abhayapuri correspondent of an Assamese daily and Dipankar Ray, resident of West Khamarpara village of Srijangram area.

The four-wheeler of the deceased journalist has also been recovered from the river.

According to the local people, the two men with their vehicle fell into the river from the Borghola-Kahibari bridge which has been lying incomplete for the last 10 years.

“Last night, they were at a cultural function. Besides being a journalist, Abdul Latif was a former AASU leader. He was associated with various socio-cultural organisations. The cause of this incident is yet uncertain,” said Anjan Kalita, a former leader of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU).

Meanwhile, local people have demanded a proper probe into the incident.
