MARGHERITA, Feb 3: The 21st Adivasi Mahasabha-2026 concluded on February 1, at the Dehing Sports Complex Samannay Khetra in Borgolai after four days of cultural, political and social programmes. Organised by the All Adivasi Student Association of Assam (AASAA) Tinsukia district committee in collaboration with Adivasi Jani Shakti Sangati, the event drew over two lakh participants.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the chief guest, paid tribute to singer Zubeen Garg and freedom fighters Vir Birsa Munda and Siddhu Kanu. He highlighted Adivasi struggles, demanding protection of their rights over water, forests and land.
Criticising the BJP-led government, Soren stressed the need for Adivasi political unity to influence Assam’s 2026 Assembly elections. He also assured financial assistance and social security for Adivasis in Assam.
Speakers called for fair wages for tea garden workers, citing Assam’s Rs 250 daily rate against Rs 400–500 in other states and urged collective action for justice. Key sessions addressed historical settlements, land rights, constitutional justice and community development. Cultural processions, folk performances and sports reflected Adivasi heritage. Flag hoisting and a martyr tribute programme marked the event, making it a landmark movement for Adivasi rights and self-respect in Assam.
