37th Central Foundation Day of ATSU to be celebrated

MORIGAON, Feb 20: The 37th Central Foundation Day of the All Tiwa Students’ Union (ATSU) will be celebrated with pomp and gaiety on February 25 at Bihutali, Morigaon town, which was disclosed by the members of the central committee in a press meet held at Bihutali ground on Friday. In the press meet, ATSU’s president Prasant Masrang, general secretary Tarun Madar, office bearer Kandarpa Hukai and other central leaders advocated for the unification of the two split factions before the upcoming foundation day. They said the ATSU will continue its democratic movement until the basic problems of the Tiwa community are resolved. “So we should unite, avoiding mutual conflicts, towards the upliftment of the ethnic community of Assam,” they added.

The organisation also disclosed the schedule of the foundation day celebration. The flag will be hoisted by ATSU’s president Prasant Masrang. Thereafter, the memorial service will be inaugurated by general secretary Tarun Madar. The event will be inaugurated by Water Resources and Public Relations Minister Piyush Hazarika. The event will be attended by Morigaon District Commissioner Anamika Tewari, Senior Superintendent of Police Prakash Sonwal and Assam Sourav Awardee Nadiram Deuri. The opening ceremony will be chaired by Prasant Masrang. The meeting will be attended by Dr Ronuj Pegu, Minister of State for Education and Upland Tribal Affairs, as the chief guest.

The event will also honour Krisnakanta Handique Awardee Maneswar Deuri and Assam Government Cultural Artist Pensioner Suven Bardoloi. The meeting will be attended by Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Tonkeswar Rabha, ATSU’s Advisor Rimal Amsi, founder GS Hemanta Kumar Deuri and Nikhil Bodo Students’ Union’s president Dipen Bodo as guests of honour. The ATSU central leadership said the meeting will be attended by several ethnic youth and student leaders.
