Ramakanta Dutta Memorial Rural Journalism award for the year 2022 presented to Abhijit Khataniar

MARGHERITA, April 26: Ramakanta Dutta Memorial Rural Journalism Award for the year 2022 was presented to Abhijit Khataniar, the local correspondent of English daily ‘The Assam Tribune’ from Doomdooma on Sunday.
The award was instituted by Tinsukia District Journalists Association (TDJA) in the memory of former professor of Physics of Tinsukia College Late Ramakanta Dutta.
The award was presented to Abhijit Khataniar in the 46th Mid-term Conference of TDJA held on Sunday at Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha Bhawan under the aegis of Doomdooma Press Club (DPC).
The award carried a gamocha, cheleng chadar, japi, memento, bundle of books, a citation and a cheque of Rs. 5,000.
The award giving ceremony was chaired by the TDJA president Anuj Kalita and was attended by eminent Assamese litterateur and former president of Tinsukia Zila Sahitya Sabha Punnya Saikia; senior journalist and the president of Tinsukia Zila Sahitya Sabha Arjun Baruah; former president of TDJA Himen Bhattacharya and Dr Rishi Das, former vice-president Santanu Goswami; former secretary Manoj Dutta and Manoranjan Das; the joint secretary of AJYCP Surajit Moran; All Moran Students’ Union’s organising secretary Joykanta Moran and the central executive member of AASU Rana Sonar and the donor of the award and senior journalist Ranjit Dutta and his wife Rumi Dutta besides others. The programme was anchored by TDJA secretary Ranajyoti Neog.
In his speech, the recipient of the award Abhijit Khataniar thanked TDJA for selecting him for the award. He assured that he would render his service in the field of journalism with honesty, sincerity and dedication.
The eight edition of the TDJA magazine ‘Janadhawani’ was inaugurated in the programme by litterateur Punnya Saikia.
Earlier, TDJA president Anuj Kalita hoisted the TDJA flag while former TDJA president Arjun Baruah initiated the ‘smriti tarpan’. The TDJA general meeting held later in the day discussed various organisational matters and adopted a few resolutions. Journalists from Tinsukia, Digboi, Margherita, Doomdooma, Kakopothar, Saikhowa and Sadiya participated in the meeting.
