5th Acharya PC Ray memorial lecture held at Science College, Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, Nov 12: The Chemical Society, Department of Chemistry, Science College, Kokrajhar, organised the 5th Acharya PC Ray Memorial Annual Lecture for 2025 at the college premises on Wednesday.

This year’s memorial lecture was delivered by Dr Suresh Kumar Nath, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Kokrajhar University, on the theme “Scientists are Entrepreneurs: Science for Mankind.”

Dr Nath highlighted the transformative role of scientists in driving societal development and underscored the importance of innovation-led research for human welfare.

He stated that scientific knowledge, combined with curiosity and a problem-solving mindset, leads to new technologies, medicines, and materials that advance society when channelled through entrepreneurship.

Referring to Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray, known as the Father of Indian Chemistry, he said Ray was a pioneering chemist and industrialist who exemplified how science can serve humanity.

The programme began with an inaugural speech by Dr Sharmistha Chakraborty, Vice-Principal of Science College, followed by a welcome address by Dr Biswajit Nath, President of the Chemical Society.

A brief introduction to the life and contributions of Acharya PC Ray was presented by Miss Nijara Basumatary, a B.Sc. fifth-semester student, while Subhamita Mukherjee of third semester introduced the resource person.

An inaugural dance was performed by Bitu Roy and Nijara Basumatary, adding grace to the occasion.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Raktim Probal Gogoi, Secretary of the Chemical Society.

The lecture witnessed enthusiastic participation from both students and faculty members, with a total of 94 participants.

The programme ended with a message encouraging young minds to think creatively, take initiative, and use science responsibly for human welfare and sustainable development.
