97 meritorious students felicitated in Margherita

MARGHERITA, July 29: A special felicitation ceremony was held on Tuesday at the auditorium hall of Margherita College under the initiative of the Margherita Regional Students’ Union.

A total of 97 meritorious students who secured 75 per cent or above in this year’s HSLC and Higher Secondary examinations were honoured at the event.

Mohit Pandey, a student of Udaipur Higher Secondary School, who secured the highest marks in the HSLC examination in the entire Margherita Co-District, was conferred the Bhupen Chandra Neog Memorial Award along with a cash prize of Rs 5,000.

The ceremony began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and was presided over by Dr Ramen Hazarika, a retired senior professor of the Assamese Department of Margherita College.

The event was inaugurated by Dr Atanu Kakoty, Principal of Margherita College, while Mriganka Chutia, General Secretary of the Margherita Regional Students’ Union, outlined the aims and objectives of the programme.

Distinguished guests who addressed the gathering included Samarjyoti Gohain, Assistant Secretary of AASU central executive committee; Ranajyoti Neog, General Secretary of Tinsukia District Journalists’ Association; Jitendra Chutia, central executive member of AASU; Pratim Neog and Konseng Gogoi, President and General Secretary respectively of Tinsukia District Students’ Union; and advisors Dipankar Buragohain and Bitu Deka. Margherita Regional Students’ Union president Abhishek Baruah also spoke on the occasion.

The event was attended by several dignitaries from the district and members of the organising committee.

The entire programme was moderated by Rupam Baruah, Literary Secretary of the Tinsukia District Students’ Union.
