HOJAI, May 23: All Assam Minorities Students’ Union (AAMSU), Hojai District Committee, has submitted a memorandum to the District Commissioner of Hojai seeking immediate intervention to prevent delays in the proposed Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) project at No 2 Kaki in the district.

Although Hojai district already has a JNV at Lumding, AAMSU stated that there had long been a demand for another central residential school in the district.

Following approval from the government, construction work for the new JNV at No. 2 Kaki has reportedly commenced.

Pending completion of the permanent campus, the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti had requested the Assam Government to provide an alternative school building for temporary functioning of the institution.

Subsequently, the newly constructed building of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya College at No 2 Kaki was handed over for temporary use.

However, after inspection, the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti reportedly submitted an estimate of ₹15 lakh to the Hojai district administration for renovation and modification works required to make the building operational.

The project has allegedly stalled after the district administration expressed inability to arrange the required funds.

In its memorandum, AAMSU urged the District Commissioner to take up the matter with the district’s three MLAs and the local Member of Parliament to ensure that the amount is arranged at the earliest.

The organisation further suggested that if government funding was not immediately possible, the district administration should appeal for public contributions, expressing confidence that the people of Hojai would support the educational initiative in the interest of future generations.

Monwar Hussain said it was unfortunate that such an important educational project was being delayed over a shortage of ₹15 lakh and termed the issue a matter of concern for the government, district administration, elected representatives and the people of Hojai.
