DIBRUGARH, March 27: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Manoj Dhanowar on Thursday filed his nomination for the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha seat, which goes to poll on April 19.
Accompanied by around 2,500 supporters waving party flags, Dhanowar took out a colourful procession from the Nirmali Gaon Playground to the District Commissioner’s Office to file his nomination amid slogans of ‘Aam Aadmi Party Zindabad’, ‘Arvind Kejriwal Zindabad’, ‘Manoj Dhanowar Zindabad’.
AAP in-charge of north-east states Rajesh Sharma was present when Dhanowar submitted his nomination papers to returning officer Bikram Kairi.
The 48-year-old Dhanowar will face off against formidable BJP candidate and Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP)’s Lurinjyoti Gogoi in a triangular contest for the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha seat. Dhanowar, who belongs to the tea community, is the son of eight-time Congress MLA from Digboi, late Rameswar Dhanowar.
Addressing reporters after submitting his nomination, Dhanowar asserted, “Our primary battle is against the misgovernance and corruption perpetuated by the BJP. Our political agenda centers around development. Our leader Arvind Kejriwal has instilled in us the courage to stand against corruption. Despite his current incarceration, his inspiration has emboldened us. The substantial influx of individuals joining the Aam Aadmi Party signifies a promising shift for Assam in the days ahead. I firmly believe that the seeds of political transformation will sprout from Dibrugarh.”
Dhanowar reiterated his dedication to serving the people of Dibrugarh with honesty and commitment, stating, “I am here to champion the rights of the ordinary citizens and usher in positive governance reforms. The Aam Aadmi Party advocates transparency and accountability, principles which I am proud to uphold in this election.”
