GOSSAIGAON, Feb 9: The All Assam Adivasi Students Association (AASA), in a press meet, strongly condemned the police personnel for the recent arrest of Paul Tudu, president of the Kokrajhar District Committee, AASA of Pradip Nag Unit.

During the press meet, AASA accused the BJP-led state and central governments of extreme fraud in tribalising Adivasis living in Assam and granting land pattas. They threatened to boycott the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha Election. A protest was also carried out on February 7 in Kachugaon under the aegis of the Kokrajhar District Committee, AASA.

Following the threats, the Kokrajhar district police arrested Paul Tudu, district president of AASA, and confined him to the police station. The organisation vehemently condemned the partial role of the police personnel in this regard.

Vishal Karmakar, organisational secretary, and Sakaria Soren, vice president of the District Committee, AASA, criticised the attempt to suppress freedom of speech, asserting that India is a democratic country where people have the right to express their demands for their legitimate rights.

They reiterated that despite promises made by the BJP during the last election to address issues concerning the Adivasi community, the government forgot these promises afterward. Consequently, they announced a democratic agitation program against the BJP to reclaim their legitimate rights. They accused the police of acting as agents of the BJP to sabotage the movement.

AASA demanded an apology from the police personnel at the earliest, warning of a strong democratic agitation if this is not met.
