AASU urges vigilance to safeguard indigenous supremacy

TEZPUR, Jan 28: Dr Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharyya, AASU Chief Adviser, urged activists to remain vigilant and committed to safeguarding the supremacy of indigenous people in Assam during the 14th biennial conference of the All Sonitpur District Students’ Union held at Dhekiajuli. He also appealed for proactive efforts to advance Assam economically.

The session concluded with a vibrant cultural procession inaugurated by AASU president Utpal Sarma, featuring thousands from diverse communities showcasing folk traditions. Sarma emphasised unity among indigenous people, stating that divisive politics would not succeed in Assam. Assamese actors Nayan Nilim and Jashasvi Bhuyan participated in the procession.

The event began with ceremonial flag hoisting by district and regional unit leaders and included performances and a delegates’ session with nearly 500 participants. A new 41-member district committee was formed, with Debanjan Bikash Pathak as president and Sankar Das as general secretary. Present were Dr Sukadev Adhikari, AASU central vice-president Nitul Bora, central organising secretary Nayanjyoti Gogoi and district president Abhijit Nath, among others.
