NHIDCL to start repairs immediately

JORHAT, May 31: The Jorhat deputy commissioner Ashok Kumar Barman held a meeting with representatives of the Jorhat district unit of AASU and officials of NHIDCL to discuss the deplorable condition of NH 715 in Jorhat district following the AASU threat of blocking the highway on Monday and a prolonged stir.

The AASU withdrew the blockade following a request from the deputy commissioner on Monday.
The NHIDCL in the meeting assured that it would repair the national highway from Lahdoigarh in the east to Ajanta bypass in the west.
The NHIDCL also assured that it would speed up the work of the stretch.
The AASU has been agitating to get the potholed road repaired and sent several memorandums to the authorities and the last one to chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on May 18 through the DC, regarding the terrible condition of the road and the need to speed up the four-laning by NHIDCL authorities.
But as all their pleas fell on deaf ears the AASU proposed a blockade on May 31 from Ajanta bypass to Jhanji and gherao of NHIDCL office on June 2.
