KOKRAJHAR, Feb 9: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) on Sunday met Union home minister Amit Shah and sought strengthening of the power and autonomy of the Sixth Schedule areas in Assam.
A four member delegation of the ABSU, led by Pramod Boro, the chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) discussed held discussions over the 125th Amendment of the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, emphasising the need to strengthen the power and autonomy of Sixth Schedule areas.
“Today at 5 PM, a delegation from the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), led by BTR Chief Executive Member Shri Pramod Boro, along with MPs Shri Rwngwra Narzary and Shri Joyanta Basumatary, met Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah Ji at his residence, Krishna Menon Marg, New Delhi. The delegation discussed the 125th Amendment of the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, emphasising the need to strengthen the power and autonomy of Sixth Schedule areas,” said ABSU president Dipen Boro.
The team also urged Shah to enhance the financial capacity of autonomous councils, ensuring better governance and development in Sixth Schedule regions. Additionally, the delegation urged Shah to pass the amendment in the ongoing Budget Session in the parliament.
Later, ABSU extended a formal invitation to the Union home minister to grace the 57th Annual Conference of ABSU as the chief guest on March 15 or 16, 2025, at Dotma, where over three lakh people are expected to participate. The home minister Amit Shah assured his presence at the mega event.
