AIR Tezpur celebrates 90 years with musical evening

“Suror Sandhiya” highlights broadcaster’s cultural contribution in Sonitpur

TEZPUR, May 17: To commemorate the 90th anniversary of All India Radio (AIR), the All India Radio Tezpur station organised a musical programme titled “Suror Sandhiya” at the Chandramohan Medhi Auditorium of Tezpur College on Friday evening.

The programme, which began at 6.30 PM , was inaugurated with the ceremonial lighting of lamps. On the occasion, announcers and presenters of AIR Tezpur performed a chorus composed by Pranjal Saikia, celebrating the legacy of the station in the cultural landscape of Sonitpur district. Explaining the significance of the event, AIR Tezpur Programme Head Rupanta Kumar Das highlighted the nationwide celebrations being organised by various AIR stations to mark the broadcaster’s successful 90-year journey.

Addressing the gathering, Kartik Sutradhar, Deputy Director of All India Radio Guwahati, spoke about the role played by the Tezpur station since its inception in promoting the talents and cultural heritage of Sonitpur and neighbouring districts. Senior Administrative Officer Dasarath Sarkar and Programme Executive Indrajit Das also shared their views on different aspects of All India Radio and its contribution to public broadcasting.

The musical evening featured performances by AIR-approved artistes Alimpon Choudhury, Pronami Borthakur, Jyotirupa Sharma and Pranjal Saikia, who enthralled the audience with light music presentations.

Among those present at the event were noted lyricist and Baan Theatre president Bankim Sarma, Tezpur College principal Dr Manoj Kumar Hazarika, Darrang College principal Dr Palashmoni Saikia, Tezpur Sahitya Sabha president Dhrubajyoti Das and secretary Dr Pallab Bhattacharya, retired AIR programme executive Pallabi Kalita, retired physics professor Dr Ramesh Chandra Goswami, District Cultural Development Officer Anchumi Basumatary, Sonitpur Journalists’ Union president Sanjib Hazarika, senior journalist of News Live Pulak Kumar Deka and noted singer Durgamayee Bora, besides a large number of listeners, artistes and media persons.

The programme was anchored by announcer Priyanka Bora, while the vote of thanks was delivered by AIR Tezpur Transmission Executive Gautam Nath.
