AJYCP commemorates Bir Lachit Borphukan at Nagaon

NAGAON, Nov 24: Various organisations, NGOs and clubs including the district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad, Asom Gramya Puthibharal Sangstha, Nagaon Lions Club and other also celebrated the birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Borphukan here at Nagaon on Thursday.

Deputy commissioner Narendra Kr Shah and other senior officials of district and police administration paid floral tributes to the legendary Ahom commander-in-chief at Pranab Boruah Children Park, near Nagaon Nehrubali. Besides, a candle march was also taken out from Nagaon Amrit Kanon to Nehrubali Field, where hundreds of people including officials, employees and others participated.

Apart from this, Sundaram Natya Gosthi, Uriagoan in association with Sangskritik Kendra Nagaon under initiative of district administration, staged the play ‘Lachit Borphukan’ penned by playwright Prabin Phukan at Nagaon District Library Auditorium. The play was directed as well as edited by noted drama activist and director Kamalesh Saikia.

Meanwhile, the district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad lit 400 earthen lamps to mark the celebration of the 400th birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Borphukan at Nagaon Nehrubali field. Thousands of students, members and other well-wishers of the organisation participated in the programme and paid homage to the brave Ahom army general. Pragjyotish Bonia, the district president of the organisation urged all to be influenced with the spirit, ideals and selfless sacrifice of Bir Lachit Borphukan and appealed all to be involved in the service of the greater Assamese nation building.

Similarly, Nagaon Lions Club also commemorated the great Ahom commander-in-chief Bir Lachit Borphukan and also organised a commemorative programme at its office conference hall in which Malchand Agarwal, Saranga Ballabh Goswami, respectively the president and secretary of the club, Biswajit Mahanta, Gurusaran Singh, Junali Sarma Hazarika, Dhiraj Bordoloi, Binod Khetaot, Susanta Borthakur, Inamul Majid, Madan Shaha, Sofiruddin Ahmed participated in the programme. During the programme, Mulchand Agarwal, Saranga Ballabh Goswami and Junali Sarma Hazarika spoke about the life, sacrifices and courage of the legendary Ahom army general. Asom Gramya Puthibharal Sangstha also celebrated the day at Netaji Vidyalaya and paid homage to Bir Lachit Borphukan. During the day, Puthibharal Sangstha conducted a speech contest on the life and contributions of Bir Lachit Borphukan among the students’ fraternity. Besides, a programme was also organised during the day where Bhaben Bora, editor of weekly Assamese newsletter ‘Kolongpar’, social activist Mukut Bhuyan, superintendent of Puthibharal Sangstha Apurba Sarma, assistant secretary of Puthibharal Sangstha Khagen Chandra Nath were present.

The programme was anchored by Rupa Bhuyan, headmistress of Netaji Vidyalaya, a release added.
