JORHAT, March 30: The Jorhat district unit of AJYCP on Tuesday staged a protest in front of a petrol pump on AT Road against the recent steep rise in fuel, LPG cylinder prices, and other essential commodities. The protestors maintained that the common masses have been badly hit by the rise in fuel when they were just recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The protestors demanded government intervention and immediate steps to bring down the prices of essential commodities. State AJYCP assistant general secretary Siva Kalita, state executive committee member Zakir Hussain, Jorhat district unit general secretary Babu Dutta were among the leaders who took part in the protest.

Meanwhile, the Nakachari unit of AASU staged an eight-hour sit-in hunger strike at Deberapar Chariali under the Mariani constituency in the Jorhat district. Notably, AASU has been complaining about the availability of only one doctor at the Mahatma Gandhi Adarsha Hospital at Nakachari for a long time. They alleged that the hospital that was established in 2011 should have a minimum of 8 doctors as per government norms but instead is being run by only one. They opined that such a situation has been causing numerous hassles for the local citizens and demanded the government to look into the matter immediately.
