BISWANATH CHARIALI/DEMOW, Feb 15: Ali Aye Ligang, one of the important festivals of the Mising community of the region, was celebrated across the state today with pomp and grandeur. The festival has been celebrated on the first Wednesday of the Phalgun month every year. It is a nature- based festival which marks the beginning of cultivation season.
The Mising dominated villages of Khanamukh area under Sonitpur district including Baligaon, Boka Gaon, Rangajan, Kekokuli village, Towbhanga, Bamunipam, Dekorai, Dharikati besides other hamlets observed this day amid traditional rituals. The Mising villages that stand on both the eastern and western bank of the Jiya Bharali river observed the festival. The traditional rituals were performed in the morning while all sections of the community people joined in ‘Gumrao’ and ‘Oinitam’ in the evening.
Demow Correspondent adds: Ali-Aye-Ligang, the spring festival of the Mising community, was celebrated in the Demow Mising area of Sivasagar District with fanfare on Wednesday.
On the occasion, the womenfolk wore their traditional dresses and performed the Mising dance on Wednesday. Traditional food items of the Mising community were prepared on the occasion and the people who visited the Mising area relished the delicious exotic items.
