JORHAT, Aug 12: The All Assam Buddhists Association has urgently sought intervention from the Prime Minister to address the escalating crisis faced by Buddhist and other religious minorities in Bangladesh. This plea follows the recent political upheaval in Bangladesh with the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government.

Ranjit Shyam, foreign secretary of the All Assam Buddhists Association, expressed deep concern over reports of attacks on homes, temples, and ashrams, as well as the loss of lives among religious minorities, including Buddhists, in Bangladesh. These incidents have caused widespread fear and uncertainty among the affected communities.

In response, the association has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister, urging immediate action to pressure the current Bangladeshi government to protect all religious minorities from persecution. The memorandum, signed by president Venerable Gyanpal Mahathera, working president Dr NN Shyam, and general secretary Dibyadhar Shyam, also calls for the Indian Government to build international pressure to ensure the safety of Buddhists and other minorities in Bangladesh.

Additionally, the association has requested the intervention of the United Nations to address the protection of minorities in Bangladesh. Established in 1939, the All Assam Buddhists Association is headquartered at Desangpani Buddhist Temple in Charaideo district.
