Ananda Mela returns to Diphu with 24-Day extravaganza

Festival aims to raise funds for its cultural training institution

DIPHU, Dec 8: The popular Ananda Mela from Guwahati has returned to Diphu, bringing a vibrant mix of entertainment shows, games, food stalls and shopping options to the Government Boys HS School playground.

Organised by the Diphu-based socio-cultural organisation Samanyai Sanskriti Mancha (SSM), the fair aims to raise funds for its cultural training institution, which imparts lessons in traditional dance, music and songs to children.

The mela, a regular attraction in Diphu that started on December 7 will continue till 31.

SSM president Sashikala Hansepi formally inaugurated the 24-day event on Sunday in the presence of Ananda Mela manager Topon Saha, SSM cultural secretary Namita Devi, assistant secretary Ram Chetia, finance secretary Raju Nath and adviser Robin Chandra Bezburuah.

In her address, Hansepi said SSM works toward preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of various ethnic tribes and provides a platform for young learners to carry these traditions forward.

She informed that the mela will remain open daily from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and appealed to visitors to maintain discipline and enjoy the festivities responsibly.

Ananda Mela manager Saha said the fair features a range of shows and rides, including the ‘Maut ka Kuan’ motorcycle stunt, giant wheel, dragon train, toro tora and attractions themed on cartoon characters for children.

Food stalls offering sweets and assorted eateries, along with stalls selling ornaments, crockery and clothing, are also drawing crowds.

He urged families, youth and children to visit the mela and enjoy a relaxed and entertaining break from their daily routines.
