Anti-terrorism day to be observed in Chirang

KOKRAJHAR, July 29: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has been observing the ‘anti-terrorism day’ every year to commemorate the tragic death of Jwhwlao Swmbla Basumatary, the then president of ABSU on July 30.

Preparation and arrangements for holding the 27th anti-terrorism day observation have so far completed to be held at Jwhwlao Swmbla Basumatary Park, Goybari near Basugaon in Chirang district on Sunday.

Notably, Jwhwlao Swmbla Basumatary, former ABSU president, was shot dead by unknown miscreants on July 30 in 1996 and since then the students union has been observing the day as anti-terrorism day every year for signifying life and philosophy of Basumatary towards building a healthy democratic non-violent society amongst the Bodos and in the entire Bodoland region, state and nation.

Many programmes are going to be organised to mark the day including flag hoisting, floral tribute to Jwhwlao Swmbla Basumatary, blood donation camp, signature campaign and open discussion on the topic of “Life of Jwhwlao Swmbla Basumatary and his indomitable role for Bodo Nation building”.

President of Bodo Sahitya Sabha and Sahitya Akademi award winning, Dr Surath Narzary, chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region, Pramod Boro, Rajya Sabha MP Rwngwra Narzary will be gracing the occasion as guests.

The students union has made an appeal to citizens and every individual to join hands towards making the society free from terror of all forms that hampers the human life and dignity from all angles.

The students union urged all sections of society to come united for letting the society unite against all forms of terror.
