TEZPUR, Nov 5: Anuradha Sharma Pujari, a distinguished journalist and writer, stressed the crucial role of impartial and people-centric journalism while addressing the inaugural session of the newly formed Sonitpur District Journalists’ Forum at the Baliram Lahkar auditorium.

Pujari highlighted the significance of impartiality in journalism, noting that the essence of true journalism lies in its impartial nature and its reach to the people. Emphasising the impact of media content, she advocated for a focus on positive stories, citing the influence of negativity on society. However, she expressed concern over the influence of social media trends affecting the media’s integrity and its grasp on the truth.

Reflecting on the post-covid scenario, Pujari raised issues surrounding vested interests attempting to undermine the credibility of newspapers, mentioning propaganda attempts during the pandemic, which falsely linked newspapers to the spread of the virus. She lamented the intrusion of politics and capitalism in the media, highlighting the competitive divisions among journalists based on TRP and circulation-driven motives.

Pujari urged journalists to maintain a positive outlook and called for unity among them. She expressed hope that the conscientious efforts of journalists would bring about a positive transformation in society.
