The distribution took place during a function in Guwahati.

“Empowering Assam’s Youth. After providing 97,505 government jobs recently, today we distributed appointment letters to 465 candidates in various departments. We are firmly on course to complete an additional 50,000 recruitments by May 2025,” Sarma wrote on micro-blogging site X.

As per an official statement, during the event, Sarma reiterated the government’s promise since its formation in May 2021 to provide 100,000 government jobs to the youth of Assam. He emphasised that the recruitment process has been conducted transparently.

As of July 15, the government has recruited 97,505 candidates, including 4,779 in 2021, 35,130 in 2022, 55,593 in 2023, and 2,003 this year, Sarma said.

The chief minister also pointed out that there has been no recruitment in engineering colleges and polytechnics in Assam since 2011. He asserted that the government aims to set a precedent in Assam’s 75-year history by reaching the target of 100,000 jobs this year and 150,000 jobs within five years.

Additionally, the government is providing one-time financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of 103 deceased employees and TET-passing contract teachers under Samagra Shiksha, Assam.

Sarma mentioned that the regularisation process for 35,000 contract teachers is underway. Once regularised, these teachers will receive full salaries for the remainder of their service and pension after retirement.

“The aim is to eliminate contract teachers in the education mission and provide social security to their families,” he added.
