GUWAHATI, Jan 19: The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in collaboration with the Government of Assam, organised a North East Organic Conclave-cum-Buyer Seller Meet at Guwahati on Monday to strengthen agri-export linkages and market access for Assam’s agricultural and processed food products.

The inaugural session was graced by the Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture and Excise, Atul Bora and attended by senior officials including Aruna Rajoria, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary-cum-Agriculture Production Commissioner, Abhishek Dev, Chairman, APEDA and Uday Praveen, IAS, Director of Agriculture, Government of Assam.

The conclave brought together over 30 exporters, 9 importers and around 50 Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) from the state. The Buyer Seller Meet provided a structured platform for B2B interactions, exploring trade opportunities and establishing long-term partnerships with domestic and international buyers.

Assam, endowed with rich agro-climatic diversity, produces a range of export-potential commodities including Assam Joha Rice, non-basmati specialty rice varieties, fruits and vegetables such as banana, pineapple, mandarin orange, Assam lemon, organic ginger, turmeric, black pepper and other horticultural and organic produce, offering strong prospects for global markets.

The conclave also featured a sensitisation session on the NPOP 8th Edition, regulatory framework and labelling requirements, enhancing awareness among exporters, FPOs, FPCs and entrepreneurs to ensure compliance with international quality and certification standards.

Addressing the gathering, Atul Bora said, “Assam and the Northeast possess a rich basket of high-quality, organically grown agricultural and horticultural products with strong global demand. With focused support in aggregation, certification, infrastructure and market access and APEDA’s continued partnership, we are committed to transforming the region’s farm produce into globally competitive exports while ensuring sustainable livelihoods for our farmers.”

Aruna Rajoria added that by strengthening aggregation, certification and market linkages through close collaboration with APEDA, farmers and entrepreneurs can access international markets in a sustainable and commercially viable manner.

Abhishek Dev, Chairman APEDA, highlighted the immense potential for agricultural, horticultural and organic exports from Assam, supported by farmer-friendly provisions in the revised NPOP and expanded market access through Organic MRAs with Australia and New Zealand, as well as FTAs with the UK, Oman and EFTA countries.

The Assam Organic Conclave-cum-Buyer Seller Meet reflects APEDA’s ongoing efforts to integrate regional strengths into India’s agri-export growth story while positioning Assam as a key contributor to high-value, sustainable agricultural exports.
