DIPHU, Aug 12: After 43 days in jail, the spokesperson of All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC), Angtong Engti Kathar was released on bail on Friday.
A rousing welcome was accorded to him at Semson Sing Engti Memorial Park. Hundreds of the party supporters came out to welcome their leader.
Kathar was arrested on July 1 by police at the Diphu Judicial Court campus under section188/143/269/270/336/353/506/323 IPC Section 83 (2) JJ ACT 2015.
Addressing party supporters Engti thanked his party workers for the concern they had shown while he was in jail.
“The present BJP government is trying to finish the scheduled tribe people by ignoring the sixth Scheduled provision. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Chief Executive Member (CEM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang have together had put up 10 non-tribal candidates in the last KAAC election which is against the Sixth Scheduled provision,” Engti said.
Engti said, “I want to tell ‘Team Karbi Anglong’ that they cannot buy me or I afraid of their threats. We have taken an oath today that until the Sixth Scheduled provisions are guaranteed and Article 244(A) of the Indian constitution is implemented, we will not stop with our movement.”
