Army show of strength at Jorhat

JORHAT, Feb 21: A two-day ‘Know Your Army-Equipment Display Mela’ Jorhat Stadium began on Tuesday at Jorhat Stadium.

A large number of assortment of military equipment ranging from infantry weapons combat vehicles, communications system, artillery guns, air defence guns, radars and helicopters are on display at the mela.

People, especially youths, students that included NCC cadests, today visited the mela, organized with an aim enthuse the youngsters by providing an opportunity to see the military might and capability of the Indian Army.

Informative stalls on different avenues available for joining the armed forces, in order to motivate young minds to join the armed forces too have been put up. The mela has been held in the backdrop of of the investiture ceremony of the Eastern Command, which will be held for the first time in Jorhat — Chou Lung Siu-Ka-Pha Samanway Kshetra, at Mohbandha outskirts on Wednesday.

Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, will present the gallantry and distinguished awards at the Eastern Command investiture ceremony.
