GUWAHATI, July 3: Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA), Guwahati is pleased to announce the appointment of Ashwin Noronha as chief airport officer. Ashwin moves to Guwahati Airport from his current role as the chief operating officer at Mumbai International Airport Limited. A veteran of the aviation industry, having served Qatar Airways Group, KPMG, and Zurich Airports in India, Ashwin will steer Guwahati Airport in the direction of the overall vision of Adani Enterprises.
The Guwahati Airport processed over five lakh passengers in May 2024 – almost 15 percent higher than the corresponding month in 2023. To manage the tremendous growth and enable passenger delight over the next few years, Guwahati Airport is expected to witness significant changes.
A new terminal that will accommodate over 13 million passengers is scheduled to be ready for operations by mid-2025, with increased runway capacity, MRO facilities, helipad, and cargo market to establish the airport as an international hub for South-East Asia.
Development at Guwahati Airport will focus on redefining the airport infrastructure through regional footprint growth. There will be an increased focus on consumers and non-passengers. With a deeper investment in digital technology innovations, Guwahati Airport will enable a seamless passenger experience.
“I am excited to be an integral part of the journey of Guwahati Airport as we continue to build the airport of this region’s future. Airport management is complex and challenging and can make a tremendous difference to the lives of the people. I genuinely look forward to this leadership opportunity and to continue to make positive impacts,” he says. “I would like to thank my predecessor Utpal Baruah, who played an intrinsic role in the development of the airport,” he further added.
As part of the Adani Airports team since 2019, Utpal Baruah steered and guided various teams towards delivering a seamless passenger experience. During his stint as chief airport officer for almost three years, Utpal brought his invaluable experience in the field of aviation to turn LGBIA Guwahati into a world-class airport.
