GUWAHATI, Oct 11: Sleuths of the directorate of vigilance and anti corruption on Tuesday arrested ASI of Silonibari Outpost, North Lakhimpur, Dambarudhar Dutta for accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from Panigaon daily market.
The directorate revealed that ASI Dutta demanded Rs 4,000 from the complainant for facilitating bail of the complainant’s family members and giving relief to the complainant’s younger brother in a criminal case.
“After getting the complaint a trap was laid on Tuesday at the Panigaon daily market (where the ASI had asked the complainant to hand over the money). ASI Dutta was caught red handed around 3:05 PM soon after he accepted the demanded amount from the complainant,” the directorate said.
The bribe amount was immediately recovered from the possession of ASI Dutta, a directorate release stated.
The directorate further added that a case had been registered in ACB Police Station on Tuesday itself vide ACB P.S. Case No. 47/2022U/S 7(a) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) against Dutta.
Necessary legal follow up actions are underway, the release added.
